Pub food rather than restaurant food is served at pub tables. Excellent gammon and beef steaks, sourced from a prize-winning local butcher, are offered as well as three fish dishes and some home-made dishes. Main courses are priced between £4.95 and £7.75. There are several puddings, some home-made and light snacks such as toasted sandwiches.

A Shropshire Star review carried out in 2001 by 2 anonymous critics who visited the pub for a meal resulted in 4 stars (out of 5) being granted in respect of their experience.

The pub has unbroken 21 year inclusion in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide and frequent mentions over the years in the Good Pub Guide. Several awards have been won during the 21 year that the pub has in the hands of the current owners; these were in relation to beer quality (CAMRA recognition) and the visual appearance of the pub in summer.
